Sigmund Freud
- Born Sigismund Schlomo Freud on 6 May 1856 and died on 23 September 1939
- Austrian psychiatrist who founded the psychoanalytic school of psychology
Consciousness and the Mind
- Preconscious: everything that can, with a little effort, be brought into consciousness
- Unconscious: inaccessible warehouse of anxiety-producing thoughts and drives
The Structural Model of Personality
- Id: instinctual drives present at birth, does not distinguish between reality and fantasy, operates according to the pleasure principle
- Ego: mediates between the id and reality
- Superego: the moral principle, internalization of society's and parental moral standards
