Vessel Basics
- A vessel is used for transporting passengers or cargo

Crew Roles
- Generally, most ships have Deck, Engineering, and Steward departments
- Captain (also known as the Master) has full command of the vessel and is in charge of all crew members
- Captain ensures the vessel follows local and international laws
Deck Crew
- Chief Officer (also known as First Mate or First Officer) is second in command and oversees the overall operations of the deck crew
- Chief Officer supervises cargo and deck crew, and ensures cargo loads and unloads safely
- Second Officer is third in command, ship's navigator, and in charge of navigation equipment from the bridge
- Second Officer stands on bridge watch
- Third Officer is responsible for safety and oversees firefighting and lifesaving equipment
Engineering Crew
- Chief Engineer is in charge of maintenance, operation, and repair of all vessel electrical and mechanical systems onboard

Steward Crew
