Vehicle Care and Equipment
- Employees with assigned vehicles are responsible for general maintenance, proper care, and daily checks (fuel, oil, water, and battery) to ensure proper functioning.
- BSO supplies fuel, oil, lubricants, and other additives for use in BSO vehicles, and use of other similar products is prohibited.
- Employees are prohibited from:
- Connecting electronic gear to a BSO vehicle's electrical system without written permission.
- Modifying a BSO vehicle's computer chips.
- Removing, replacing, or obscuring assigned BSO-issued license plates.
- Employees are responsible for the appearance and cleanliness of assigned vehicles, which must be kept clean at all times.
- Flat tires will be changed by a towing service under BSO contract, except in an emergency with supervisor approval.
Inspection
- Supervisors are responsible for inspecting their employees' vehicles at least once a month for cleanliness, performance, and equipment.
- Vehicle inspections will be documented on the applicable vehicle inspection form.
Vehicle Maintenance
- Vehicles will be maintained as directed by BSO Fleet Division.
Disabled Vehicle
- If an assigned vehicle becomes disabled, the BSO Fleet Division will be notified, and employees will use only BSO authorized towing companies or garages.
- If an assigned vehicle is disabled for an extended period, employees will be given a motor pool vehicle.
Vehicle Equipment
- Each assigned patrol vehicle must carry:
- One first-aid kit
- Two blankets
- Minimum of 12 flares
- One crowbar
- One riot baton and helmet
- One rope and flotation device
- One fingerprint kit
- Infectious disease supplies
- One fire extinguisher
- One rechargeable flashlight (issued to Lieutenants and below)
- Additional equipment is required for marked units, crash investigation duties, and specialized assignments.
- Supplies will be replenished through the Service Center or Central Supply, following specific procedures.
