    Study Notes

    Pay Plan

    • Pay plans provide a minimum and maximum salary range for each classification.
    • Pay rates will be adjusted to conform with the salary range for the classification where the position is allocated.
    • Employees receiving a salary in excess of the maximum rate for that classification will not receive further increases.
    • Pay plans and provisions for longevity pay, overtime, education incentive, and other compensation provisions do not apply to classifications subject to bargaining unit agreements unless otherwise provided in the agreement.

    Pay Periods

    • The payroll will be computed biweekly.
    • Employees will receive a paycheck every two weeks.
    • If a pay day is on a legal holiday, pay checks will be distributed on the preceding workday if possible.

    Payroll Direct Deposit

    • Employees can enter Direct Deposit information using the PeopleSoft System through Employee Self Service.
    • To use Employee Self Service, navigate to myBSO Self Service > Payroll and Compensation > Direct Deposit.
    • The Direct Deposit Form (BSO A#10) is not required if the employee self service is utilized.
    • Paper Direct Deposit forms (BSO A#10) will only be accepted from employees via a BSO email address and must be submitted to [email protected] or hand delivered to the Finance Division.
    • Fax forms will not be accepted.
    • The form must be completed in its entirety, including the employee's signature, CCN, and a copy of the required supporting documentation.

    Selection/Assessment Process

    • Human Resources is responsible for job posting/advertising, candidate processing, test development, test administration, rater training, and eligibility list development for open and promotional selection processes.

    Filling Vacant Positions

    • The hiring process is initiated by completing a Personnel Requisition Form (BSO AP#26) by the hiring component.
    • The form is routed through the hiring component's chain-of-command for approval or denial.
    • Once approved, the form is entered into PeopleSoft, which prompts e-mail notifications to the originating component and Budget staff for approval or denial.
    • If approved, PeopleSoft prompts e-mail notifications to the Classification and Compensation staff in Human Resources for approval or denial.
    • Once final approval is granted, PeopleSoft prompts an e-mail notification to the originating component and Selection and Assessment staff in Human Resources, authorizing the initiation of the hiring process.

    Job Announcements

    • There are two types of job announcements: open competitive (any person can apply) and in-house (only current BSO employees can apply).
    • Job announcements are posted for at least five (5) days, but may be posted for a longer time period if needed.
    • Human Resources processes recruitments for open competitive and in-house postings.

    Promotional Testing Process

    • The Human Resources Director or designee is responsible for administering the promotional testing process.
    • Promotional testing processes are developed, administered, evaluated, and documented via Human Resources.
    • Promotional job announcements are prepared in accordance with the job classification description, applicable collective bargaining unit agreement, and standard BSO advertisement layout.
    • The types of assessment procedures required for qualification are noted on the posting and may include the percentage or weight given to each component.

    Applying for Positions

    • Requesting employees submit an on-line Application for Employment by the time and closing date listed on the job posting.
    • Applications for Employment are not accepted for positions not posted or after the closing date.
    • A résumé alone is not accepted unless an Application for Employment has been submitted.
    • New hire or promotional probationary employees may not apply for another position within BSO until their probationary period is successfully completed.

    Eligibility Lists

    • Human Resources provides eligibility lists of successful candidates to the Sheriff or designee upon completion of the selection or promotional process.
    • Eligibility lists remain active for a specified period, which can be extended upon approval from the Sheriff.
