Conduct Unbecoming an Employee

  • Employees must conduct themselves in a manner that does not discredit themselves, BSO, or the County, both on and off duty.
  • Employees are prohibited from knowingly aiding, abetting, assisting, or soliciting another employee to violate or attempt to violate a rule, order, or directive.

Breach of Confidence

  • Employees must act in a manner that promotes public confidence in the integrity of BSO.
  • Employees must not engage in conduct, on-duty or off-duty, that gives the appearance of impropriety.
  • The test for appearance of impropriety is whether the conduct would create a perception that the employee's ability to carry out their official responsibilities with integrity, fairness, and competence is impaired.

Corrupt Practices

  • Employees are prohibited from engaging in any activity or scheme, on-duty or off-duty, that is dishonest, illegal, or unethical.
  • Corrupt practices include activities done to make money or to gain or keep power, authority, or advantage over another.

Confidentiality

  • Employees must treat all official business of the department as confidential.
  • Employees are prohibited from disclosing confidential or law enforcement agency sensitive information to anyone, except to those for whom it is intended or under due process of law.
  • Disclosure of confidential information is prohibited through oral, electronic, or written means.
