Department Owned Vehicle Use Policy
- The Spring Fire Department (SFD) uses this policy to guide the operation of department-owned vehicles.
- All SFD members, regardless of district, must follow this policy.
- Each officer is responsible for making sure the members under their supervision follow the policy.
- All members are required to familiarize themselves with the policy and adhere to its guidelines.
- The policy applies to all members of the SFD.
- The executive committee reviews this policy annually to ensure its accuracy.
- Department-owned vehicles can be used for conducting departmental business and serving the community.
- Members can’t drive department vehicles outside SFD territory without prior approval from the Fire Chief. This exception only applies if the use of the vehicle directly benefits the department.
- Only active SFD personnel are permitted to drive or ride in department-owned vehicles.
- Individuals unaffiliated with SFD are prohibited from riding in department vehicles.
- Department vehicles can be driven to and from places of employment only if the officer can leave their workplace to respond to an emergency.
- The fuel tank must not fall below half a tank.
- The person assigned to a department vehicle is responsible for regular maintenance.
- The inside and outside of the vehicle must be kept clean.
- The ESD can audit fuel and mileage logs at their discretion.
