- Physician verification is required when an employee misses three or more consecutive shifts or is hospitalized.
- Employees abusing sick leave, such as using sick leave around scheduled days off, may face disciplinary actions, including the requirement for medical verification.
Fitness for Duty Exam
- If reasonable suspicion arises regarding an employee’s fitness for duty, a mandatory examination by a medical professional designated by the District may be required.
- The District covers costs not covered by insurance for fitness for duty examinations.
- If deemed unfit for duty, an employee may request a second examination, with costs covered by the employee if not insured.
- A third opinion can be obtained if the second examination disagrees with the first; costs are shared between the District and employee.
Sick Time Donation Policy
- Employees can use or donate up to 24 hours of sick time annually that will not affect Public Employee Health Plan (PEHP) calculations, provided their sick leave balance remains above 720 hours during the calculation period.
