Overview of HOSA-Future Health Professionals

HOSA-Future Health Professionals is the only national student organization focused solely on healthcare.
The organization originated from the University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine and the South Dakota Area Health Education Center Program Office.
South Dakota HOSA-Future Health Professionals received its National Charter on June 26, 2013.

Mission Goals of South Dakota HOSA

ENVISION: Encourage students to see themselves as future health professionals in South Dakota.
Career Awareness: Inform students about over 200 healthcare careers beyond traditional roles like physicians and nurses.
ENERGIZE: Inspire and nurture health career aspirations across diverse geographic and socioeconomic backgrounds.
ENGAGE: Involve students in their academic journey through hands-on experiences in the Competitive Events Program.

Program Impact on Students

Offers skill development and project opportunities that provide insight into in-demand health careers.
Welcomes students from all regions of South Dakota.
Addresses the lack of healthcare knowledge and experience in rural areas, where 97% of South Dakota counties are classified as rural.
Aims to provide resources and experiences for students in these communities, effectively "quenching their thirst" for healthcare knowledge.
