Study Notes

Routines

  • Attendance, 5S, Exercise are important routines
  • These routines are essential for a productive and organized work plan

Simple Machines

  • A simple machine is a tool that changes the size or direction of a force
  • Simple machines can make work easier
  • There are six types of simple machines: Lever, Ramp, Wheel and Axle, Pulley, Screw, and Wedge

Lever

  • A lever is a bar that moves against an unmoving point called a fulcrum
  • Examples of levers include shovels and seesaws

Ramp

  • A ramp is a surface that is straight and slanted
  • Ramps can be used to move an object from one place to another

Wheel and Axle

  • A wheel and axle is made up of a wheel and a bar, or axle
  • The bar is connected to the center of the wheel

Pulley

  • A pulley is a wheel that carries a flexible rope, cord, cable, chain, or belt on its rim
  • Pulleys can be used singly or in combination to transmit energy and motion

Screw

  • A screw is a short, slender, sharp-pointed metal pin with a raised helical thread running around it and a slotted head
  • Screws are used to join things together by being rotated so that it pierces wood or other material and is held tightly in place

Wedge

  • A wedge is a piece of a substance that tapers to a thin edge and is used for splitting wood and rocks, raising heavy bodies, or for tightening by being driven into something
  • Examples of wedges include shovels, knives, axes, pickaxes, saws, needles, scissors, and ice picks
  • Wedges can also be used to hold things together, such as staples, push pins, tacks, nails, doorstops, or shims

Energy

  • Energy is what makes things work and change
  • There are many different forms of energy, including heat, light, sound, and electricity
  • Energy can be obtained from food, gasoline, wind, and the Sun
  • We use different forms of energy every day

Heat

  • Heat is an energy that makes things warm
  • Heat can be obtained from burning things like wood, oil, or gas
  • People use heat to warm their homes and cook food, which kills bacteria that can harm humans
