Understanding Motion

• A position is the place where something is located, and it tells us if one thing is close to or far away from another thing.

Describing Position

• Position can be described using prepositional words for places, such as:
  • Above / on top of / on
  • Under / below / underneath / beneath
  • Behind / in front of
  • Between / beside / next to
  • Near / close to / by
  • In / inside / within / into
  • Out / outside / out of

Defining Motion

• Motion is a change in an object's position.
• Objects can move in various ways, such as:
  • Forward
  • Backward
  • In a circle
  • Zigzagging

Understanding Speed

• Speed is how fast or slow something moves in a certain amount of time.
• Different objects move at different speeds.
• Examples of objects that move at high speed:
  • Feather (not typically associated with high speed)
  • Bowling Ball
