Study Notes

Lesson Plan in Science 9: Photosynthesis

  • Objectives: Students will describe the process of photosynthesis and differentiate basic features and importance of photosynthesis and respiration.

Photosynthesis in Plants

  • Learning Competency: Differentiate basic features and importance of photosynthesis.
  • Subject Matter: Photosynthesis and respiration.
  • Reference: Science 9 SLM (Student Learning Module).
  • Materials: Laptop, PowerPoint presentation, module.

Procedure

  • Preliminary Activities:

    • Set up online class using Zoom.
    • Prayer and attendance check.
    • Review of previous lesson. Discuss what food or energy sources students consumed before class and whether there was a gain or loss of energy.
  • Lesson Proper:

    • Introduction: Students discuss recent food/energy intake and its impact.
    • Discussion:
      • Review producers, consumers, and decomposers in a food web.
      • Explain that photosynthesis is a process used by photoautotrophs to make their own food. Clarify the meaning of "photo" and "synthesis" in relation to the process.
      • Explain that plants are not the only organisms capable of photosynthesis.
      • Introduce the chemical equation for photosynthesis using a slide: 6CO2 + 6H2O + Light energy (chlorophyll) → C6H12O6 + 6O2. Emphasize the reactants (carbon dioxide and water) and products (glucose and oxygen) and their importance.
