Green Initiatives

• Solar Panels are being installed at Patna and Jaipur stockyards, with 7 more stockyards slated for installations in FY23.
• Polymer saddles are being used in place of wood at all stockyards.

Digital Initiatives

• Transport Management System (TMS) aims for optimized cost and service levels, multi-modal planning, and robust OTIF measures.
• Centralized dispatch planning with machine learning and AI is being implemented.
• Integration with the Indian Railway Central System for efficient monitoring, planning, and paperless operations.
• BOXN/BOBSN Tracking System provides end-to-end material flow visibility with quality and quantity data monitoring.

Discharge Ports

• Dhamra Port is the key port for TSL, while Paradip Port serves TSM and TSK.
• Haldia Port handles ~5.8 MnT in FY23, with the lowest rail freight to TSJ and HMC, but limited capacity for large vessels.
• Dhamra Port handles ~10 MnT in FY23, offering Capesize vessel handling and proximity to TSK, but limited rake availability.
• Paradip Port and KICT handle ~7.4 MnT in FY23, offering proximity to TSK and TSA, but limited rake availability to SER zones.
• Alternative ports like Kolkata, Gopalpur, and Gangavaram are used for crisis management and ensuring supply chain reliability.
• Subarnarekha Port is under development to meet future growth plans.

Coastal Movement

• 5,560 km coastline with 11 major ports facilitates coastal movement.
• Paradip/Dhamra to Mumbai routes are currently operational, offering low GHG emissions and ease of handling coils up to 34 tons.

Inland Waterways

• Barge shipments through the India-Bangladesh protocol river route are being explored as an alternative to rail and road transport for TMT bars to North Eastern regions.
• Trial shipments from Haldia to Pandu port were executed in Feb’22, with shipments to Agartala via Ashuganj port in Bangladesh being executed in Jan’23 and May’23.
