The Rural Health Unit (RHU) is a government facility responsible for distributing resources such as medication and healthcare professional manpower to the population on a municipal level.
The RHU is mandated by R.A. 1082 of 1954 to implement health programs, promote health, and provide healthcare services funded by the Local Government Unit (LGU).
RHU services include vaccination, free consultation, disease prevention, free prescription refill, blood pressure and capillary blood sugar monitoring, and some RHUs have lying-in and available dentists.
The availability of RHU services depends on the amount of funding the LGU provides.
Electronic Health Record (EHR) or Electronic Medical Record (EMR) is used to store patient information, which includes the patient's chart, and is utilized by healthcare professionals through platforms or applications such as BluRHU.
BluRHU is a healthcare information system (HIS) that requires three components: healthcare professionals with competency to use the application, the application software itself, and hardware infrastructure.
E-referral works by redirecting the patient's information to a better-equipped RHU within the same municipality, ensuring the continuation of care and directing the patient to an RHU that meets their specific health needs.
The usage of EMR systems aims to help referrals between government-to-government, government-to-private, and private-to-private health facilities.
During the pandemic, there was an increased usage of EMR in RHU in Central Visayas, highlighting its importance in proper referral.
