Research Proposal Submissions and Ethical Review Process
- The process of submitting a research proposal for approval is detailed.
- The project needs to be approved by the relevant unit. This includes the Institute Director for postgraduate research or the Faculty Dean/Department Academic Board for specialist dissertations.
- An approval letter from the relevant unit needs to be uploaded to the system when submitting a proposal. This letter of approval will ensure that the topic of the thesis/project has been approved.
Research Project Types
- There are several types of research projects that are funded by the Scientific Research Projects (BAP) Coordination Unit of the Higher Education Institution. These include standard research projects, thesis projects and conditional research projects.
- Students may apply for funding for the research undertaken for their PhD or Master's thesis. Funding for these projects ranges from 27,500 TL to 40,000 TL depending on the level of study.
Documents Required for Application
- Some documents are required for a research project application. These include a signed application letter, a full paper PDF with relevant research articles, 3 proforma invoices, a project commitment statement, an ILMER commitment letter, a faculty/institute decision letter, a decision letter from the relevant ethics committee for ethical projects, and a project application form.
- The submission of the application is done electronically through an automation system.
Project Submission Process
- The project duration for projects funded by the Coordination Unit is at least 12 months. The applicant may, by applying to the commission, request an extension to the initial project time frame under certain circumstances.
- The total duration of the project cannot exceed 36 months, including any extensions.
- There are specific provisions for thesis projects relating to the duration and funding of the project. The durations may be extended to encompass legal extensions granted by relevant bodies; however, funding is capped to the normal study duration.
- The BAP Coordination Council reviews applications for project funding. This review may involve an assessment of the project's methodology and feasibility.
Budget and Expenditure Items for Research Projects
- Research projects may include a variety of expenditure items. These include laboratory supplies, laboratory equipment acquisition, service acquisition, mission expenses, stationery supplies, live animal and feed acquisition, travel expenses, representation and hospitality expenses, computer, printer, computer hardware and software purchases, maintenance and repair, personnel expenses, and consumable goods purchases.
Documents to be Prepared Before Applying for a Research Project
- The project requires a letter of approval from the Institute/Dean's Office for the thesis topic. This is necessary to ensure that the topic has been approved by the relevant unit, before the project can be submitted.
- The applicant needs to submit a letter of appointment for the thesis adviser. This letter should confirm that the relevant institute has appointed a supervisor for the project.
- For projects involving animals in research, an Ethics Committee permission letter from the relevant animal research ethics committee needs to be obtained.
- If the research project involves clinical trials, the project needs to get a Clinical Research Ethics Committee Approval Letter.
- If the research project involves studies that are non-invasive in nature, then the project needs to obtain a Non-Interventional Research Ethics Committee Approval Letter.
- Project applications require proforma invoices or quote letters. The applicant needs to provide detailed specifications on how these funds will be used within a technical information sheet.
- A confidentiality agreement may be required for the project. This agreement will ensure that sensitive information is kept confidential.
