Introduction to Rescue Support Systems (RSS)

• RSS are designed for rescue situations involving collapse, containment, or stabilization.
• They can be used in place of or in conjunction with wood cribbing or other shoring devices.
• The system is modular and can be expanded based on incident circumstances.

AcmeThread Strut

• The AcmeThread Strut consists of extendable struts, end plates, and extensions.
• Each strut has a 2 1/2" diameter aluminum alloy inner movable acme threaded shaft and a 3" diameter aluminum alloy outer tube.
• Struts can be extended manually or pneumatically and locked in any desired position.
• The strut axial crush strength exceeds 67,000 pounds.
• The AcmeThread Strut can be used with the Strut Cup for incidents that require stabilization at heights.

System Components

• The RSS components include AcmeThread Struts, Strut Extensions, Hinged Base 12 with Anchor Ring, Multi-Base, Ratchet Belt with Finger Hook, and Tie-Down Key with J-Hook.
• The AcmeThread Strut is made of aluminum alloys and is available in different length ranges.
• The District has two different length ranges: 25"-36" and 37"-58".

Strut Extension

• Strut extensions are available in 12", 24", and 36" lengths.
• They can be used independently as rigid support devices or integrated with AcmeThread Struts to add length.

Hinged Base 12 with Anchor Ring

• The Hinged Base 12 with Anchor Ring is used for vehicle stabilization.
• The base is 12" and has 8 holes to accept pickets.

Multi-Base

• The Multi-Base is a 3" diameter cylinder base with a claw-like wedge and a slot that accepts 3/8" chain.

Ratchet Belt with Finger Hook

• The Ratchet Belt is 27 feet in length and serves to tension the vehicle for stabilization.
• The Finger Hook can be attached to the vehicle, tie-down key, another ratchet belt finger hook, or an opposing base.

Tie-Down Key with J-Hook

• The Tie-Down Key can be used in conjunction with the Ratchet Belt to tension the strut.

Maintenance

• General maintenance should be performed following use and at quarterly intervals.
• Check for loose hardware, cracked or deformed parts, and clean all RSS components and accessories.
• Lubricate o-rings/seals with grease and lock pins/couplings with WD40.

Inventory Identification

• The Rescue Support System components are labeled with an Inventory Identification Number.
• This number is used for inventory tracking and maintenance reporting.
