- Paragraph structure: Each sentence in a paragraph connects to the others, supporting the central idea
- Paragraph as Independent Unit: A paragraph is a self-contained unit with a beginning, middle, and end, or a part of a larger composition.
- Elements of an Effective Paragraph:
- Topic Sentence: States the main idea, often the very first sentence.
- Supporting Details: Elaborate on and expand the topic sentence.
- Clinching Sentence: Concluding sentence; can restate the main idea, summarize supporting details, or provide a final thought.
