ADEN's Responsibilities

  • Ensures all prerequisites, pre-block, during block, and post-block activities for quality output
  • Ensures sufficient lighting during night working and arranges fuel/oil in advance
  • Takes all possible actions to clear the block section expeditiously in the event of machine breakdown
  • Inspects track machines as per the prescribed schedule and checks items/checklists as per Indian Railways Track Machine Manual
  • Prepares plans and estimates for works and submits detailed proposals with justifications to the Division for sanction of works
  • Executes and monitors works as per tender conditions and approved plan & schedule
  • Measures ballast or carries out 100% checks on quality and quantity
  • Coordinates with officials of other departments as warranted

Inspection and Maintenance of Track

  • SSE/P.Way (In-charge) is responsible for inspection and maintenance of track in a satisfactory and safe condition
  • Conducts inspections as per schedules laid down by the Administration, enters inspection details in TMS, and ensures compliance within a reasonable time
  • Devotes sustained attention to Permanent Way regarding safety, smooth running, economy, and neatness
  • Locates faults/irregularities in the Permanent Way and ensures prompt remedy
  • Observes the behavior of track under passing trains to detect inadequate packing during routine inspections
  • Travels on the footplate of Engine/Rear brake-van/last Vehicle of fast trains, takes down notes of bad running locations, and gets them rectified

SSE/P.Way (In-charge) Additional Responsibilities

  • Ensures timely removal/cutting of trees in proximity to and liable to foul the track during a storm
  • During routine inspections, independent of detailed periodical inspections, watches for any signs of weakness in bridges and structures affecting track and promptly reports any matter demanding the attention of Assistant Divisional Engineer
  • Be vigilant to locate all faults/irregularities in the Permanent Way and ensure prompt remedy
  • Immediately brings defects, which are beyond powers to remedy, to the notice of Assistant Divisional Engineer and obtains advice

SSE/P.Way (In-charge) Inspection Schedule

  • Channel sleepers: Once in 6 months by rotation with JE/SSE/P.Way (Sectional)
  • AT welding site: At least once each welding team in a month
  • USFD Test check: Monthly, minimum 2 hours during regular trolley inspection
  • Night Inspection: Once in a month
  • Monsoon Patrolling: SSE/P.Way (In-charge) - once in a month, JE/SSE/P.Way (Sectional) - once in fortnight by train and inspection by trolley
  • Hot Weather Patrolling: SSE/P.Way (In-charge) - when introduced, should check the work of Patrolmen during day time (preferably between 12:00 to 16:00 hrs.) once in a month
  • Night foot plate inspection: Once in a month by SSE/P.Way(In-charge) and JE/SSE/P.Way (Sectional)

Keyman's Responsibilities

  • Recoups missing ERCs, liners, keys, and other missing fittings
  • Ensures correct driving of fittings in the stretch
  • Carries out rail end examination, lubrication of fish-plated joints as per direction of JE/SSE/P.Way
  • Imposes caution after stopping the train or otherwise, wherever required for safety, with pre-printed paper slips provided by JE/SSE/P.Way
  • Carries out additional duties in LWR/CWR territories, including periodical oiling and greasing of SEJ, checking and retightening of fastenings at SEJ and other sleepers, and tightening loose fittings and replacement of missing fastenings
