Radio Station Basics
- There are two types of radio transmitters: Low Power Transmitter (LPT) and High Power Transmitter (HPT).
- Radio broadcast transmitters can use Medium Wave (MW) or Short Wave (SW) frequencies.
- The Station Director oversees the entire radio station and is primarily responsible for programming.
- The Station Engineer is responsible for the technical aspects of the radio station and supervises equipment maintenance and technical staff.
- The control room is vital and serves as the central point to manage the radio broadcast, sending programs to the transmitter.
- There are two studios: one for recording and one for making announcements and broadcasts.
- The announcer’s booth is where presenters make announcements.
- Transmitters are located outside city boundaries and are categorized by their power output.
- A 1 kW transmitter can be installed in the same area as the studio/control room, but high-power transmitters require installations outside the city.
- The Control Room (CR) receives audio from the studio, CD players, and computers and sends it to the transmitter.
- The transmitter sends the program to listeners' radio sets, where the signals are converted back into sound.
