Qualifying Examination for Promotion
- Examination consists of three papers: Elementary Book-keeping, General rules and procedure, and a specific accounting branch
- Elementary Book-keeping paper tests general principles and practices of bookkeeping
- General rules and procedure paper assesses draft-letter writing and general office procedures
- Specific accounting branch paper tests theoretical and practical knowledge in a chosen area (e.g., establishments, stores, expenditure accounts, etc.)
- Examines knowledge of machine methods and traffic books in relevant branches
- Includes relevant accounts, budgets, and appropriation areas
Passing Requirements
- 40% required in each subject for passing
- Exam dates and locations determined by the Head of each office
- Maximum of five chances allowed for Appendix 2 (IREM) Examinations
- Additional chances may be granted by regional managers.
- Six months of service in the railway accounts office is required to sit for the exam.
- Waivable exceptions in rare cases allowed by General Manager
- Temporary employees may sit for the exam, but a passing grade doesn't guarantee permanent employment allocation
- Candidates with 50% or higher on one subject may be exempt from further examinations in that subject
- If a candidate withdraws from an exam but submits an application to the General Manager, it counts as a chance availed of.
- In cases where a candidate misses the exam due to circumstances beyond their control, an application with supporting medical certificates needed.
Important Notes
- Directly recruited Accounts Assistants (JAAs) must pass Appendix II examination within three years of employment
- Failing to do so may result in termination.
- A third chance may be granted by the General Manager within a four-year period.
- Rules can only be changed with the Railway Board's approval.
