The Oak Island curse is a legend that predicts that seven people will die before the treasure is found.
Some six people have died in the past 100 years looking for treasure on the island.
Oak Island is located in Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia, and is privately owned by the Michigan Group.
Rick and Marty Lagina are the owners of Oak Island, and they claim to have found artefacts of monetary value, but no treasure.
In 1799 three teenage boys discovered a depression on the island known as the Money Pit, which became known as the site of the treasure.
The boys discovered evidence that the hole had been used for ‘something’, and so it’s plausible that they found treasure and hid it away.
There is no evidence that any treasure has been found on the island.
The Lead Cross discovered at Smith's Cove is reckoned to be six or seven hundred years old and heralding from Southern France.
Captain Kidd is one of the most commonly mentioned suspects in regards to buried treasure on Oak Island.
There is no one singular theory as to who could have buried their treasure on Oak Island, but one person's name crops up regularly - Captain James Kidd.
Oak Island was a British colony for about eighty years before Marie Antoinette even lost her head.
Assuming Marie Antoinette gave her jewellery to her lady-in-waiting, why take them to a tiny island 4,817 km away? One counter suggestion is that Oak Island was a French colony, but why flee from France to another French territory?
