Pronouns
- Pronouns are words that take the place of nouns
- There are 3 cases of pronouns: nominative, objective, and possessive
- Nominative case pronouns are used when they are the subject of the sentence. Examples: I, you, he, she, it, we, you, they
- Objective case pronouns are used when they are the object of the sentence. Examples: me, you, him, her, it, us, you, them
- Possessive case pronouns are used to show ownership. Examples: my, mine, your, yours, his, her, hers, its, our, ours, their, theirs
Indefinite Pronouns
- Indefinite pronouns refer to people or things that are not specifically identified. Examples: any, anybody, nobody, anyone, each, everyone, one, someone, somebody, every, either, neither, all, some, few, several, many
Reflexive and Intensive Pronouns
- Reflexive pronouns show that the action of the verb is done by the subject to itself. Examples: myself, yourself, herself, itself, himself
- Intensive pronouns emphasize the noun or pronoun they refer to. Examples: myself, yourself, herself, itself, himself. Intensive prounouns can be removed from a sentence without changing the sentence's meaning.
Demonstrative Pronouns
- Point to specific nouns or pronouns.
- Singular demonstrative pronouns: this, that
- Plural demonstrative pronouns: these, those
Relative Pronouns
- Join dependent clauses to independent clauses.
- Examples: who, whose, whoever, whom, that, which, whichever
