Promotional Exam Procedures Summary
- Candidates must notify the exam proctor if they will be late or they will not be allowed to sit for the exam
- Personal items allowed in a clear 8”x11” bag, while restricted materials include various electronic devices and personal defense items
- Each candidate receives an answer sheet, test booklet, and pencil for the exam
- Candidates are given a maximum of 3 hours for the written portion of the exam
- Results of the exam are received within 2 weeks
- The written test is scored out of 100, with 70% considered a passing score
- The Fire Chief has discretion to throw out and redo the written test if more than 10% of the questions are deemed invalid
- The scenario and/or oral review portion is subjective; reviewers do not offer answers or guidance to the candidate
- Candidates can challenge the written test questions within 21 days of receiving test results
- If unsatisfied with the decision, candidates can grieve the question under the District’s Policy and Procedure
