    • Blank Session:

      • Launch Pro Tools, click "Create" tab on Dashboard.
      • If Pro Tools is open, use "File > Create New."
      • Use Command+N (Mac) or Ctrl+N (Windows) as shortcuts.
      • Name the session descriptively; avoid illegal characters (e.g., | " : < > ? / ).
      • Select "Local Storage (Session)," deselect "Create from Template."
      • Choose Audio File Type (BWF [.WAV] or AIFF).
      • Select Sample Rate and Bit Depth (16-bit, 24-bit, or 32-bit float).
      • Set I/O Settings (Stereo Mix or Last Used).
      • Choose interleaved or non-interleaved audio recording.
      • Choose a location to save the session (Prompt for location or select a default location).
      • Click "Create."
      • A Pro Tools Edit window appears with no tracks or clips.
    • Session from Template:

      • Access the Dashboard's Create tab.
      • Select "Local Storage (Session)," select "Create from Template."
      • Choose a template category and specific template.
      • Name the session descriptively.

    Pro Tools File Hierarchy

    • Session Folder: Pro Tools automatically creates a folder named after the session.
    • Session File (.ptx, .ptf, or .pts): The core session file, where recording, editing, mixing, etc., occurs. Contains a map to other media files.
    • WaveCache.wfm: This file contains the waveform visuals of audio clips. It's automatically generated and can be reconstructed if needed.
    • Audio Files (.wav, .aif): Contains audio files from recordings; each recording is generally a separate file.
    • Video Files (.mov, .mp4 etc.): Stores imported video files (depending on workflow, not all imports create this).
    • Rendered Files (.wav, .aif): Temporarily stores rendered audio files needed for specific production tasks.
    • Bounced Files (.wav, .aif): Holds mixed-down audio files, usually in stereo format, ready for export.
    • Clip Groups: Holds exported clip groups, useful for combining multiple clips into one object.
    • Session File Backups: Automatically created backups of the session file based on user settings.

    Pro Tools Windows

    • Edit Window: Main editing space where tracks, clips, and editing occur.

    • Edit Window Toolbar: Contains clusters of tools (Edit Modes, Edit Tools, etc.).
