Study Notes
Primitive Reflexes Remediation Techniques
- Grasp Reflex Remediation involves stroking the palm of the relaxed hand with an object 25 times to stimulate reflex response.
Moro Reflex Remediation – Starfish
- Patient starts seated with a crossed arm and leg position (right arm over left, right leg over left).
- The patient bends slightly, then opens arms and legs fully, mimicking a fall without actually falling.
- Return to the original position by switching the arm and leg placement; repeat this action 50 times.
Rooting Reflex Remediation
- Use a soft object to stroke the cheek towards the corner of the mouth.
- Perform the stroking technique on both sides of the face, completing 25 strokes per side.
TLR Remediation – Core
- Patient lays flat on their back, curls up while holding their legs, and lifts their head off the ground.
- Maintain this position for approximately 15 seconds before resting.
TLR Remediation – Superman
- Patient lies on their stomach, simultaneously lifts arms and legs to create an arch in the back.
- Hold this position for around 15 seconds, then allow for rest.
Asymmetrical Tonic Neck Reflex Remediation – Lizard
- Patient lies on their stomach with a neutral head position.
- Begin by turning the head to the right, raising the right arm and leg to a 90-degree angle, then returning.
- Reverse the action by turning the head to the left and raising the left arm and leg; repeat this sequence 50 times while maximizing drag on the ground.
Primitive Reflexes
- Primitive reflexes are automatic movements triggered by specific stimuli, essential for early development and can indicate neurological health.
Grasp Reflex Remediation
- Goal is to activate and strengthen grasp reflex.
- Procedure:
- Ensure the patient's hand is fully relaxed.
- Use an object to stroke across the hand 25 times on the affected side.
Moro Reflex Remediation – Starfish
- Aims at improving the Moro reflex through movement and coordination.
- Procedure:
- Patient sits with right arm and leg over the left.
- Bend slightly, then fully open arms and legs, creating a falling sensation.
- Return to starting position, switching arms and legs.
- Repeat the sequence 50 times.
Rooting Reflex Remediation
- Focuses on enhancing the rooting reflex, vital for feeding.
- Procedure:
- Use a brush to stroke the cheek towards the corner of the mouth.
- Perform on each side, totaling 25 strokes per side.
TLR Remediation – Core
- Strengthens postural control through core activation.
- Procedure:
- Patient lies flat on the back and curls up while holding their legs.
- Head should remain elevated for about 15 seconds, followed by rest.
TLR Remediation – Superman
- Enhances back extensors and overall body coordination.
- Procedure:
- Patient lies on their stomach, lifting arms and legs simultaneously.
- Aim to create an arch in the back.
- Hold the position for approximately 15 seconds before resting.
Asymmetrical Tonic Neck Reflex Remediation – Lizard
- Targets coordination and balance related to head movement.
- Procedure:
- Patient lies on their stomach with neutral head position.
- Turn head to the right, raising the right arm and leg at a 90-degree angle, then lower.
- Repeat the movement to the opposite side.
- Focus on a slow, dragging motion across the ground.
- Complete the circuit 50 times.
