Primary Syphilis
- Incubation period: 9-90 days
- Develops at site of contact/inoculation
- Presents as a single, painless, clean-based, indurated ulcer with firm, raised borders
- Ulcer may occur at any site, including anogenital, tongue, pharynx, lips, fingers, nipples, etc.
- Associated with non-tender regional adenopathy
- Highly infectious
- Diagnosed using darkfield microscopy
- VDRL (Venereal Disease Research Laboratory) or RPR (Rapid Plasma Reagin) tests are not yet positive
- Can resolve spontaneously without treatment after a few weeks
