Present Simple
- Describes repeated or habitual actions.
- Example: In Spain, people have dinner at 10 PM.
- Example: Australians do not have lunch at midday
- Most verbs can be used in this form, except "be", "have (got)" (possession), and modal auxiliaries like "must" and "can".
- Example: He isn’t, is he?
- Example: He hasn’t (got), has he?
Present Continuous
- Describes actions happening at the moment of speaking, indicating something "in progress".
- Example: We're flying at 10,000 meters.
- Example: It’s raining in Milan.
- Most verbs can be used this way except for "be", "have got" (possession), modal auxiliaries (must, can, etc.), and stative verbs (verbs of perception).
- Stative verbs include love, like, dislike, want, believe, understand, know, hear, etc.
- Stative verbs are used in the present simple.
Affirmative Forms
- Present Simple: I/You/We/They work; He/She/It works
- Present Continuous: I am working; You/We/They are working; He/She/It is working
