Purpose of Policy 509
- Provides guidance on the running order and response of COMM ambulances.
Responsibilities
- Shift Commander, Company Officers, and/or the senior firefighter manage the running order and housing of the COMM ambulances.
Ambulance Assignments
- When all COMM ambulances are in service, Ambulance 324 is assigned to Station 1.
- Ambulance 327 serves as the 4th transport vehicle when all four COMM ambulances are operational.
- The ALS engine (E-303) from Station 3, equipped with ALS equipment, acts as the first due engine when one COMM ambulance is in service.
Response Protocols
- If the first due ambulance from Station 1 is committed, the Station 1 ALS Engine responds with a crew for additional calls.
- When all on-duty staffed ambulances are committed, the fourth ambulance is utilized for transporting patients.
ALS Engine Assignments
- During three COMM ambulances in service, the ALS engine is stationed at Station 1.
- With two ambulances in service, the response assignment is one ambulance at Station 2 and another at Station 3.
