Plant Disease is the malfunctioning of host cells and tissue that results from continuous irritation by a pathogenic agent, producing symptoms in the host plant. Disorder refers to non-infectious plant diseases due to abiotic causes such as adverse soil and environmental conditions. Symptoms are external or internal reactions or alterations in a plant.

- Plant Pathology, also known as Phytopathology, is the study of the nature, development, and management of plant diseases.
- The term "Phytopathology" is derived from Greek words: "Phyton" meaning plant, "Pathos" meaning suffering or ailment, and "Logos" meaning study or discourse.
Plant Pathogens
- A plant pathogen is an entity, usually a microorganism, that can incite disease in susceptible plants.
- Pathogens are also referred to as incitants, causal agents, or causal organisms.
Plant Diseases
- A plant disease is the malfunctioning of host cells and tissue that results from continuous irritation by a pathogenic agent.
- This leads to suffering and produces symptoms in the host plant.
- The term "dis-ease" refers to a state of not being at ease.
Disorders
