Account Authentication

Local account: authenticated on the local computer, provides access to the local computer
Network ID: authenticated by a computer on the network, provides access to the local computer and other resources on the Windows domain
Microsoft account: authenticated on the live.com website, provides access to the local computer and online resources

Microsoft Account Details

Can be a standard account or an administrator account
Can be associated with a network ID, allowing sign-in with the Microsoft account and authentication to the Windows network and live.com

User Account Control (UAC) Dialog Box

The UAC dialog box prevents malicious background tasks from gaining administrative privileges when an administrator is signed in.
It enables administrators to sign in using a less powerful user account for normal desktop activities, while still allowing them to perform administrative tasks as a regular user.

Controlling UAC Settings

To control UAC settings, go to Control Panel, click User Accounts, and then click Change User Account Control settings.
