- Emilio Aguinaldo (1899-1901): Started in the Magdalo chapter of the Katipunan, elected president of the revolutionary government at the Tejeros Convention, and later, the Biak-na-Bato Republic. Youngest president at 28.
- Manuel L. Quezon (1935-1944): First Filipino president of the Commonwealth under American Rule. Known as the "Father of the National Language". Initiated women's suffrage in the Philippines. 1st senate president elected as president of the Philippines. Died in tuberculosis in New York.
- Jose P. Laurel (1943-1945): President of the 2nd Republic, known as the "Puppet president". Established the Lyceum of the Philippines. Government caretaker during World War II.
- Sergio Osmena, Sr. (1944-1946): 2nd Philippine president during the Commonwealth. 1st Filipino national leader under the American regime who became the speaker of the Philippine Assembly. Vice-president during Quezon's regime.
- Manuel Roxas (1946-1948): Last President of the Commonwealth and first President of the Third Republic. Reconstruction and Rehabilitation.
- Elpidio Quirino (1948-1953): First president from Ilocos Region (Ilocos Sur). Two principal objectives: economic reconstruction and restoration of people's trust and confidence in the government. Minimized the Huk problem. Established LASEDECO Law Settlement and Development Corp. for landless farmers. Created the President's Action Committee on Social Amelioration (PACSA) and the Agricultural Credit Cooperatives Financing Administration (ACCFA) to help farmers. Established rural banks. Total Economic Mobilization Program.
- Ramon Magsaysay (1953-1957): Known as the "Man of the Masses" (Little Man). Promised justice to the common people. First president who wore Barong Tagalog during his inauguration. First president to open Malacañang to the public. Died in a plane crash in 1957.
- Carlos P. Garcia (1957-1961): Remembered for his "Filipino First" policy (priority to Filipinos in land and business). Austerity Program (less extravagant spending, less imports).
- Diosdado Macapagal (1961-1965): "Poor boy from Lubao". Moved Independence Day from July 4 to June 12. Established the Land Bank of the Philippines.
- Ferdinand Marcos (1965-1986): First and only president from Ilocos Norte in the 4th Philippine Republic. Promised to make this country great again, ruled for 20 years. Only president to be re-elected for a second term. First president who took his oath in a native language. Worked for changing the 1935 constitution, resulting in a 1973 constitution. Declared Martial Law in 1972 due to deteriorating peace and order. Aboilished Congress.
- Corazon C. Aquino (1986-1992): First woman president of the Philippines and Asia. Restored democracy by holding elections, ratifying a new constitution, restoring freedom of the press and speech, and releasing political prisoners. Worked for economic recovery.
- Fidel V. Ramos (1992-1997): Known for his "Philippines 2000" program to make the Philippines an economically developed country. Restored economic growth and stability. Signed peace agreement with the Rebel Moro National Liberation Front.
- Joseph Estrada (1998-2001): Known for his "Erap Para sa Mahirap" program - focusing on alleviating the socio-economic situation of the poor. Resigned before an impeachment trial.
- Gloria Macapagal Arroyo (2001-2010): Second female president. Oversaw road and infrastructure improvements. Peso became the best-performing currency in Asia in 2007. Implemented eVAT law.
