- Philippine nursing history encompasses beliefs, practices, early hospitals, and schools established in the Philippines.
- Early beliefs about diseases included illnesses being inflicted by others (enemies or witches) or caused by evil spirits.
- Methods to drive off evil spirits included the use of "word doctors" (folk doctors), priest physicians, Babaylan, and Herbolarios (herb doctors).
- Early care of the sick was also practiced through "Herbicheros" - herb men who practiced witchcraft and "Mangkukulam/Mangangaway" as people believed to be afflicted by witchcraft or disease without identified causes.
