What is the National Artists Award?

• The National Artists Award (NAA) is the highest national recognition given to Filipinos who have made significant contributions to Philippine arts.
• NAA covers Music, Dance, Theater, Visual Arts, Literature, Film, Broadcast Arts, and Architecture.
• The award is initiated by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP).

Criteria for National Artists

• The award is based on broad criteria set by the Cultural Center of the Philippines and the National Commission on Culture and the Arts.
• Criteria include living artists who have been Filipino citizens for the last 10 years prior to nomination and artists who died after 1972 but were Filipino citizens at the time of death.
• Other criteria include artists who helped build a Filipino sense of nationhood and those who have made a significant impact on succeeding generations.
• Artists who have created a significant body of work and/or consistently displayed excellence in their art form.
• Artists who enjoy broad acceptance through prestigious national and/or international recognition.
