Mechanism of Action
- Binds to beta 2 adrenergic receptors in airway smooth muscle
- Causes bronchodilation
Onset and Duration
- Onset: 5-15 minutes (inhaled)
- Duration: 3-6 hours
Indications
- Bronchospasm
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity
- Tachydysrhythmia
Dosage and Administration
Adults
- MDI: 1 puff (100mcg/puff) every 30-60 seconds, as needed, up to a maximum of 30 puffs (3000mcg)
- Nebulizer: 5mg nebulized continuously, as needed, no maximum dose
