Spring Fire Department Pet Microchip Program
- This document outlines the procedures for Spring Fire Department's Pet Microchip Program.
- The program aims to reunite lost animals with their families.
- The service is generally available from 7 am to 9 pm, or at the company officer's discretion.
- All personnel involved with fire department operations at the station level, communications and outreach should follow the outlined procedures.
Pet Microchip Scanning
- Personnel must read the instruction manual before using the Pet Microchip Reader, which should be charged and checked once per shift.
- Animals must be leashed or in a carrier and scanning should be done outside by the rescuer's vehicle or in the station's foyer.
- Photos should be taken of each scanned animal.
- If a microchip number is found, it should be searched using the AAHA microchip search page to locate the manufacturer's toll-free number.
- If an animal is not registered or the information is outdated, a lost animal form should be filled out and submitted.
- All scanned lost animals must be documented through the lost animal form.
- If an animal appears injured or in distress, contact the SPCA for an animal ambulance.
Lost Animal Forms
- Lost animal forms are available via QR code on the chip case & reader.
- Forms are submitted to the Communications and Outreach team.
- Forms are used to maintain a database of lost animals brought to fire stations.
- Forms are not accepted via text or email, only submitted through the QR code on the chip case & reader.
Lost Animal Documentation
- Lost animals will leave the fire station with the rescuer.
- Animals are not allowed to stay at fire stations.
- If a microchip number is not found, put a 0 in the microchip number field on the form.
Injured Animals
- If an animal appears injured, is unable to eat or drink, or is in distress, contact the SPCA for an animal ambulance at 713-880-HELP (4357).
- For immediate foster help or questions, contact the Public Information Officer.
