Self-Aspects

Developmental Stages
- Psychology identifies stages of development like prenatal, toddlerhood, childhood (different stages), adolescence, adulthood (different stages), and old age.
- Adolescence is a specific stage
- This stage involves significant physical changes, abstract thought development, moral and philosophical reasoning, questioning beliefs and defining personal identity, and developing intimate relationships.
General Characteristics of Adolescence
- Adolescence involves rapid physical changes, increased understanding of complex concepts, and the development of a strong sense of self and purpose.
- There are different stages of adolescence (early, middle, and late)
- A specific marker within early adolescence is the onset of puberty which brings changes like menarche for females and nocturnal emissions for males
The Johari Window

The Unique Self
- Every individual is unique and special.
- People differ in physical, cognitive, emotional, social capacities, values, and beliefs, making comparisons irrelevant.
- Understanding each person's uniqueness avoids making unfair comparisons.
Aspects of the Unique Self
- Characteristics: These are the unique qualities that define a person. Examples include traits like being highly focused or self-reliant.
- Habits: These are repeated behaviors or tendencies. Examples include sleeping long hours, coming to school late, or frequently eating junk food.
- Experiences: These significant moments in life shape and define a person, impacting their current state and future direction. Examples include pageant wins, academic achievements, or sharing feelings with someone important.
