### Permanent Maxillary Central Incisor
- The maxillary central incisor is the largest of the anterior teeth and is the widest mesiodistally.
- The maxillary central incisor differs from the lateral incisor in the following ways:
- The central incisor is wider
- The central incisor is longer
- The central incisor, alongside its counterpart, is the only tooth that has its mesial surfaces in contact with each other.
- A space between the central incisors or other teeth is called a “Diastema”.
- The incisal ridge is present in newly erupted teeth, the incisal edge is created after incisal wear due to forces of mastication.
### Anatomy
- The labial surface is smooth and convex with developmental lines that divide the surface into three parts (lobes).
- The mesial contact area is near the incisal edge.
- The distal contact area is at the junction between the incisal and middle thirds.
- The mesio-incisal angle is sharp.
- The disto-incisal angle is rounded.
- The cervical line is convex rootwise.
- The root is cone-shaped with a blunt apex.
- The root is 2-3mm longer than the crown.
- The lingual surface shows elevations and a concavity
- The elevations are:
- Cingulum (present at the cervical 1/3)
- Mesial and Distal Marginal Ridges (MMR and DMR)
- Incisal Ridge
- The depression is:
- Lingual Fossa
- The elevations are:
- The crown tapers lingually and the lingual surface is narrower than the labial surface
### Development
- 1st Evidence of Calcification: 3 to 4 Months
- Enamel Completed: 4 to 5 Years
- Eruption: 7 to 8 Years
- Root Completed: 10 Years
