Abnormalities of the Attachment of the Penis
Penile Torsion
- Penile torsion is a rotational defect of the penile shaft, usually rotating to the left side (counterclockwise direction).
- Rarely, it can rotate to the right side.
- Often associated with hypospadias.
- In most cases, the median raphe spirals obliquely around the shaft, rather than being in the midline.
Penile Chordee
- Congenital chordee is caused by reduced elasticity in one or more fascial layers of the penis.
- Leads to shortness of the corpus spongiosum when erection occurs.
- Abnormalities include:
- Torsion
- Penoscrotal web
- Concealed penis
Types of Penile Chordee
- Classified based on location:
- Distal (most common)
- Glanular
- Coronal/subcoronal
- Distal penile shaft
- Mid-shaft: Middle penile shaft
- Proximal: Proximal penile shaft
- Penoscrotal
- Scrotal: Associated with bifid scrotum
- Distal (most common)
