Which spinal segments supply the skin of the upper part of the pectoral region up to the level of the sternal angle?
Spinal segments C3 and C4.
What are the cutaneous nerves of the pectoral region and their respective branches?
What are the cutaneous nerves of the pectoral region and their respective branches?
Supraclavicular nerve (C3,4) with 3 branches: medial, intermediate, and lateral to skin over upper and medial part of thorax, over upper part of pectoral region, and skin over shoulder. Also, the lateral and anterior cutaneous branches of T2 - T6.

Study Notes
Pectoral Region
- The skin of the upper part of the pectoral region up to the level of the sternal angle is supplied by the T2 to T4 spinal segments.
Cutaneous Nerves of the Pectoral Region
- The cutaneous nerves of the pectoral region include the medial and lateral pectoral nerves.
- The medial pectoral nerve is a branch of the medial cord of the brachial plexus.
- The lateral pectoral nerve is a branch of the lateral cord of the brachial plexus.
Pectoralis Major Muscle
- The Pectoralis major muscle attaches proximally to the anterior surface of the sternum, costal cartilages, and the aponeurosis of the external oblique muscle.
- The Pectoralis major muscle attaches distally to the lateral lip of the bicipital groove of the humerus.
Muscles of the Pectoral Region Proper
- The muscles of the pectoral region proper are the Pectoralis major and Pectoralis minor muscles.
Additional Muscles in the Pectoral Region
- Two other muscles found in the pectoral region are the Subclavius and Serratus anterior muscles.
