Plants are living creatures. We see plants all around us-in the school garden, in parks and near our houses. PARTS OF A PLANT A plant has many parts such as roots, stem, flower and leaves. TYPES OF PLANTS Plants are of different shapes and sizes. Some are big and strong whereas some are small and weak. Let us read about different types of plants. Trees Plants that are big, tall and strong are called trees. We see a lot of trees in the parks and jungles. Trees have a thick and hard stem called trunk. They also have many branches. These branches bear leaves, flowers and fruits. The roots of a tree are thick and strong. Trees live for many years. Shrubs Shrubs are smaller than trees. Shrubs too have hard stems but they are not thick and strong. They also have many small, woody branches. They may be bushy. Shrubs live only for a few years. Herbs Herbs are smaller than shrubs. Herbs have soft, thin and green stems. They do not have many branches. Most herbs live only for a few months. Climbers Some plants climb on a wall or a stick erected for support. This is because they have weak stems. These plants are called climbers. Creepers Creepers have weak stems but they do not climb up. They creep along the ground. Water plants Some plants grow in the water. They are called water plants. They have long stems under the water. Animals are living creatures. Like us, animals also need air, food and water to live. WHAT ANIMALS EAT Some animals eat grass, leaves or other parts of plants.
