Study Notes
Pancreas Part 2 Summary
Imaging Techniques
- Compression Scanning: involves pushing to displace gas
- Use shallow breathing and big breaths to get better imaging
- Use liver as a window by taking small breaths and holding
- Push stomach out to get better imaging
- Patient can be seated or standing during imaging
- Drink water to fill the stomach, acting as a window (specific tail)
- Try different windows, such as using the spleen as a window (coronal approach)
Laboratory Values
Serum Tests
- Amylase: 60-80 units
- Lipase: 1.5 U/mL
- Glucose (fasting): 65-110 mg/dL
- All sugars: 80-120 mg/dL
Urine Tests
- Amylase (2 hr): 35-260 U/hr
- Alkaline phosphatase: no normal value provided
This quiz covers pancreas lab values, normal variants, and embryology, as well as imaging techniques for better visualization. Learn about compression scanning, shallow breathing, and other methods to improve pancreatic imaging.
