Panay Bukidnon Culture

• Dr. Alicia P. Magos, an anthropologist and professor emerita of University of the Philippines Visayas, began researching the Panay Bukidnon in 1988.
• Federico "Tuohan" Caballero was recognized as a GAMABA (National Living Treasure) in 2000 for his mastery of 10 epics or suguidanon.

Sugidanon

• The term sugidanon can mean “epic-chanting” or “storytelling” depending on usage.
• Sugidanon are a significant part of Panay Bukidnon culture and are often performed during special occasions.

Clothing and Dance

• A sarong is a large tube or length of fabric worn in Southeast Asia, South Asia, and Western Asia, and on many Pacific islands.
• BINANOG is a traditional indigenous dance from the Philippines that depicts the movement of an eagle/hawk.

• The SULUKAN, a traditional form of music, is performed by the dalang (or dhalang), a pasindhèn who also sings with the gamelan.
