The empire reached its zenith during the reign of Ashoka (circa 268-232 BCE), who spread Buddhism throughout the subcontinent and beyond. The Mauryan Empire collapsed in the third century BCE, giving way to smaller regional powers.

Islamic Invasion and Rule (1000 - 1750 CE)

India's Islamic history began with the arrival of Arab traders and invaders from Central Asia. The Delhi Sultanate was established in 1206 CE by Qutbuddin Aibak, followed by several Muslim rulers who extended their control over large parts of northern India. The empire reached its peak during the reign of Alauddin Khilji (circa 1296-1316 CE).

British Colonial Rule (1757 - 1947)

The British East India Company gained significant influence in India during the late 17th century, gradually expanding its territorial control through various political strategies and military campaigns. The company ruled directly from 1757 to 1813, when the British crown took charge. British rule ended on August 15, 1947, when India became an independent nation.

Postindependence Period (1947 - Present)

Since independence, India has undergone numerous socioeconomic changes. Key developments include social legislation that improved the status of disadvantaged communities and economic expansion fueled by globalization and technological advancements. The country remains one of the world's leading powers in various fields, including science, technology, literature, music, and filmmaking.
