Oasis is an English rock band that was formed in Manchester in 1991. The group's line-up includes lead vocalist Liam Gallagher, his younger brother Noel Gallagher on guitar and vocals, bass player Paul McGuigan, Drummer Alan White, and former members Guitarist Bonehead, Duff Wannop, Tony McCarroll, and Paul Arnold. Known for their britpop sound, the band has sold over 70 million albums worldwide.
Formation
The band was formed in 1991 when Liam and Noel Gallagher decided to start a new band after the demise of their previous project, Inspiral Carpets. They named themselves after the Beatles song 'In My Life', and began playing gigs around Manchester area shortly afterwards.
Success
Oasis reached mainstream success with their third album 'What's the Story?' which was released in October 1994 and included hits like 'Live Forever', 'Supersonic', 'Cigarettes & Alcohol', 'Rockin Chair', and 'Shakermaker'. This album became one of the biggest UK selling debut albums ever. Their next album, 'Be Here Now', was even more successful, featuring tracks such as 'Some Might Say', 'D'You Know What I Mean?', 'My Big Mouth' and 'Roll With It', making it Britain's best-selling album in history.
Feuds
Despite their commercial success, the band experienced internal conflicts between its two leaders - brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher. These feuds led to numerous public spats and ultimately contributed to the disbanding of the group in August 2009.
Reunion
On New Year's Eve 2019, the Gallaghers performed together at a concert in Mexico City and announced a reunion tour for 2020. However, these plans have been delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
