  • Provides structure and framework for understanding
  • Are a representation of a body of knowledge

Conceptual Frameworks

  • Representation of a body of knowledge based on a person's understanding or perception of a topic
  • Also known as paradigm
  • Used to provide context and structure
  • Independent of time and place

Metaparadigm

  • Meta = "with"
  • Paradigm = "pattern"
  • Collective term representing four concepts of nursing:
    • Person - Humans (individual, family, community) - recipients of care
    • Environment - external or internal influences
