Explain the etiology of non-specific inflammatory disorders.
Non-specific inflammatory disorders can be caused by exogenous factors such as biological agents (bacteria, viruses, parasites), chemical agents, physical agents (burns, radiation), and foreign bodies (suture material). They can also be caused by endogenous factors such as circulatory disturbances, enzymes activation, products of metabolism, autoimmune/allergic reactions, and neoplasia.

The body's defense reaction in response to inflammation is to eliminate or limit the spread of the injurious agent. This includes isolating the affected tissue, neutralizing aggressor factors, destroying invading microorganisms, inactivating toxins, and removing necrotic cells and tissues in order to prepare the affected tissue for healing.
