National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) Planning a Practice

  • The NCCP is a collaborative program of the Government of Canada, provincial/territorial governments, national/provincial/territorial sport organizations, and the Coaching Association of Canada.
  • The program aims to prepare coaches to plan safe and effective practices.

NCCP 1-3-5-7 Definition

  • Know participants' socio-economic factors, life experiences, developmental stages, disabilities, impairments, sexual orientations, abilities, emotional intelligence, mental health, and internal motivation.

Logistics and Safety

  • List the facilities, equipment, days/times, restrictions, and safety considerations available for practice.
  • Document psychological safety considerations for the environment and nature of the sport.

Practice Objectives

  • Identify key points and practice objectives generated from group discussions.
  • State the type of objective (example: athletic ability, technical skill, tactical skill, or life skill) and explain the reasoning for choosing this objective.
  • How the objective links to the age and stages of participants.

Skill Development

  • Plan the activity to accommodate different skill levels
  • Train a physical ability appropriate for participants' development stage
  • Adapt the practice to meet needs based on different skill levels and developmental needs of participants

Checklist
