NCC Structure and Training
- NCC (National Cadet Corps) is a voluntary organization under the Ministry of Defence.
- The Defence Minister is responsible for its functioning.
- Headquarters is in New Delhi, headed by a Lieutenant General.
- 17 Directorates, each headed by a Major General/Brigadier, are located in state capitals.
- Each Directorate oversees multiple Group Headquarters (GHQs).
- Each GHQ commands 5-7 NCC units/battalions, each commanded by a Colonel/Lieutenant Colonel.
- Units consist of companies led by Associate NCC Officers (ANOs).
- There are 99 Group Headquarters controlling over 700 Army, 73 Naval, and 64 Air Squadrons in the country.
- Officers Training Academies (OTAs) in Kamptee (men) and Gwalior (women) train personnel to be Associate NCC Officers.
- Staff includes regular officers from the armed forces, Whole Time Lady Officers (WTLO), Associate NCC Officers, Girl Cadet Instructors (GCI), and Permanent Instructional staff.
- Civilian Instructors are also involved (gliding, ship modeling).
- Training methods include Institutional (school/college parades), Camp, Attachment (with Army/Navy/Air Force units), and Naval/Air Wing activities.
- NCC offers Basic, Advanced, and Specialized training, emphasizing camps.
NCC Syllabus
- NCC General (6 periods), National Integration and Awareness (7 periods), Drill (45 periods), Weapon Training (25 periods), Personality Development (28 periods), Leadership (12 periods), Disaster Management (13 periods), Social Service and Community Development (47 periods), Health and Hygiene (10 periods), Adventure (1 periods), Environmental Awareness (3 periods), Obstacle Training (9 periods), and General Awareness (4 periods).
- A total of 210 periods are planned across three years.
NCC Aims and Objectives
- Develop qualities like character, comradeship, discipline, secular outlook, spirit of adventure, and selfless service in cadets.
- Create an organized, trained, and motivated youth resource for leadership in all fields, serving the nation.
- Motivate youth to choose the armed forces as a career.
- Train volunteer youth to be confident, committed, and competent leaders.
- Enhance awareness of responsible citizenship.
- Provide opportunities for knowledge enrichment, communication skill development, and character building.
- Conduct social activities and community development.

- Focus on national integration, cultural exchange, and social awareness.
- Community development activities include Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Tree Plantation, and Disaster Relief.
- Activities develop leadership traits, improve self-awareness, interpersonal relationships, and communication skills.
- National Integration camps (Ek Bharat Shresth Bharat Camps) promote national unity and cultural understanding.
