Mughal Empire: Akbar
- Akbar was the third emperor of the Mughal dynasty, succeeding his father Humayun.
- His reign lasted from 11th February 1556 to 27th October 1605, until his death.
- Bairam Khan acted as the regent of Akbar.
Administrative Reforms
- Akbar divided the empire into 15 Subahs (states or provinces) as part of his administrative reforms from 1572 to 1580.
- Subahs were further divided into districts known as Sarkars.
- Sarkars were further divided into Mahals or Parganas.
Later Years
- By the 18th century, the Subahs were conquered by the British and Marathas.
Personal Life
- Akbar had 6 wives, with Mariam-uz-Zamani (also known as Jodhan Bai) being his chief consort.
- Mariam-uz-Zamani was a Hindu.
- Akbar's most famous child was his son Jahangir, who succeeded him as emperor.
