MS PowerPoint Overview
- PowerPoint is a proprietary presentation software developed by Microsoft.
- It was launched on May 22, 1990, as part of the Microsoft Office suite.
- Runs on both Microsoft Windows and Apple's Mac OS X operating systems.
What is a Presentation?
- A presentation is the act of demonstrating and explaining a topic's content to an audience.
What is a Presentation Program?
- A presentation program is computer software used to display information, typically in the form of slides.
PowerPoint Presentation Structure
- A PowerPoint presentation is a collection of sequence slides displayed to an audience.
- Each slide contains presenter-intended content, which can include text, images, sound, animations, etc.
- Presenters can control slide transitions, or the program can automate navigation.
Opening PowerPoint (Long Method)
- Click the Start Button.
- Navigate to Programs.
- Navigate to Microsoft Office.
- Click Microsoft PowerPoint 2007.
Opening PowerPoint (Short Method)
- Double-click the PowerPoint logo on the desktop.
PowerPoint Parts
- Microsoft Office Button: Replaces the File menu in older versions, offering common commands like open, save, and print. Located in the upper-left corner.

Creating a New Presentation
- Click the Microsoft Office Button.
- Click New or press CTRL + N.
- Select Blank presentation.
- Click Create.
Closing PowerPoint
- Click the Close button on the upper right of the screen.
- Click the Microsoft Office Button and select Exit PowerPoint/
- Press ALT + F4 to close the program.
Saving a Presentation
- Click the Microsoft Office Button.
- Select Save or Press CTRL + S.
- Save Dialog Box will appear.
- Choose location.
- Enter file name.
- Click Save.
Opening a Presentation
- Click the Microsoft Office Button and click Open or Press CTRL + O.
- The Open Dialog box will appear.
- Select the desired file folder or drive.
- Select and open the presentation file.
