Motion

Speed

Speed is a measure of how fast an object is moving. It is calculated by dividing the distance traveled by the time taken to do so. The unit of speed is meters per second (m/s).

Distance-Time Graphs

Distance-time graphs are used to represent the motion of an object. They plot the distance traveled by an object against the time taken. A straight line on a distance-time graph represents a constant speed, while a curved line suggests that the object is accelerating or decelerating.

Kinematics

Kinematics is the branch of physics that deals with the motion of objects. It involves studying the relationship between an object's position, velocity, and acceleration. Kinematics equations are used to describe the motion of objects.

Velocity

Velocity is a measure of how quickly an object is moving in a particular direction. It is calculated by dividing the distance traveled by the time taken. The unit of velocity is meters per second (m/s).

Acceleration

Acceleration is the rate at which the velocity of an object changes. It is calculated by dividing the change in velocity by the time taken. The unit of acceleration is meters per second squared (m/s²).

In a speed-time graph, speed is always plotted on the vertical axis, and time is always plotted on the horizontal axis. The gradient of the line on the graph represents the acceleration of the particle. The area under the speed-time graph represents the distance the particle travels.

In a distance-time graph, a straight line represents constant speed, while a curved line suggests acceleration or deceleration. The area under the distance-time graph represents the distance traveled by the particle.

In a velocity-time graph, a flat horizontal line represents a constant velocity, while a line with a non-zero slope indicates a changing velocity. The area under the velocity-time graph represents the distance traveled by the particle.

In a distance-time graph for uniform motion, the graph is a straight line, as the distance covered is constant for equal time intervals. The slope of the line indicates the speed of the object.

In a distance-time graph for uniformly accelerated motion, the graph is a parabolic curve, as the distance covered changes exponentially. The slope of the line indicates the acceleration of the object.

In a velocity-time graph for uniform motion, the graph is a straight horizontal line, as the velocity is constant. If the graph has a non-zero slope, it indicates a changing velocity, which means the object is accelerating or decelerating.

In a velocity-time graph for uniformly accelerated motion, the graph is a straight line, as the velocity changes at a constant rate. The slope of the line indicates the acceleration of the object.

In a distance-time graph for a particle under constant acceleration, the graph is a parabolic curve, as the distance covered changes exponentially. The area under the curve represents the total distance traveled by the particle.

In a velocity-time graph for a particle under constant acceleration, the graph is a straight line, as the velocity changes at a constant rate. The area under the curve represents the total distance traveled by the particle.
